Mountain bike leader & coach
It was my friend Judith who introduced me to Mountain Biking. She had been attending a MTB group for women called Curly Trails and had been raving about it. I decided to go along just to see what all the fuss was about and quickly became hooked.
At the time, I was a 40 year old working Mum of two with not much free time on my hands, and although I had always loved the outdoors having grown up riding ponies and being dragged around the Lake District by my Mum, I found it difficult to get to the places I really loved. With a mountain bike, I quickly found I could get to quite wild places in the Tweed Valley and still be back in time to collect the kids from school – something I could never do when I was dreaming of climbing Munros!
Now as a Mountain Bike Leader and coach, I promote MTB to women through my business Swift Trails – for me it’s all about using the time we do have in our busy lives in the best way we can. Adventures don’t need to be epic multi-day journeys – a morning spent exploring a new place on our bikes with friends can reveal hidden pleasures – a stunning view or the coconutty smell of summer Gorse in its blaze of yellow colour – these things in life are so life-affirming – free and precious.
