“Findra creates waterproof jacket from plastic bottles and recycled coffee grounds” – Fashion Network

By Barbara Santamaria for Fashion Network

Scottish activewear and outdoor brand Findra has developed a waterproof jacket made from an eco-friendly ‘coffee yarn’. The innovation marks the label’s entry into the outerwear category.

The Stroma Technical Jacket, available in two colourways, is made from plastic bottles and coffee grounds, using a high-tech yarn that is environmentally friendly, deodorising, fast drying and naturally UV-resistant.

“The unique fabric of this jacket is in keeping with Findra’s sustainable, innovative ethos. Our customers have been asking us for a jacket since we started out, they wanted the next layer to add to Findra’s popular base layers and merino wool tops, and we wanted to give them something extra special,” commented Findra founder Alex Feechan.

“This jacket has been two years in the making and has been tested by elite mountain biker Lee Craigie, so it’s been put through its paces. Lee wore the first version and we made improvements based on what she had to say.”

The jacket underlines Findra’s rapid growth over the past few years. The brand was founded by Feechan, a Scottish fashion designer, in the small textile village of Innerleithen in 2014, and last year it expanded into menswear.

In addition to a store in Edinburgh, Findra continues to operate a design hub in Innerleithen, where customers can see the product first hand and provide feedback.

The Stroma Technical Jacket is lightweight, and features a dropped rear gem and draw cord adjusters to protect from wind. Sleeves and internal cuffs have thumb holes and taped seams, while concealed pockets and waterproof zips complete the look.
