FINDRA’s Weekly Inspiration: Age Is Just A Number

Here at FINDRA, we’re always looking to bring you snippets of motivation to get you inspired for your own everyday adventures. Last week saw our brand ambassador, Jo Moseley, be the first woman to paddleboard from Liverpool to Goole and she’s proven that age is irrelevant to ability.

Interview with Jo

Jo Moseley, our incredible brand ambassador, just completed her Paddleboard The North challenge which saw her paddleboard 162 miles from Liverpool on the English west coast to Goole on the east coast! She used the Leeds & Liverpool Canal and Aire & Calder Navigation and became the first woman to do so. Along the way she litter picked to highlight the issue of plastic pollution in our waterways, raised money for 2 Minute Beach Clean and The Wave Project, AND showed us that adventure isn’t just for the young.

Read her interview with us over here.

Finding Joy

‘Finding Joy’ is based on a poem Jo Moseley wrote about the joy of tiny adventures in the hills and waves. Trail running, paddleboarding, bodyboarding, wild swimming and learning to surf have helped her find peace, courage and happiness after some difficult times. Having been inactive for over 25 years until she was 48, she cherishes these tiny adventures and is grateful for every one.

This film was entered into the BMC TV Women In Adventure film competition 2019 and we love sharing it.

Finding Yourself

Jo has helped shape a narrative around growing older and tackling those stereotypes around what you’re “supposed to do” or the way you’re “supposed to act” and showing that shrinking into the background of life isn’t the only option anymore. There’s no right or wrong way to get older, but you have to remember to keep a sense of self.

Since birth, women are reminded that the clock is ticking whether that be time to develop a career or time to conceive a family – we’re very aware of growing older. This fantastic picture essay by the Guardian hears from 7 women in their 50s, 60s and 70s who challenge the notion that older women become invisible.

We are strong and we are mighty.

Music of the Week

We’re building a FINDRA Community Playlist over on Spotify, bringing you music of a rather eclectic variety! From classic dance tunes to lesser-known indie songs, we hope there’s something new in there for you. If you’ve got a favourite you’d like to hear in the playlist, drop us a tweet!

This gorgeous song by Alessia Cara, a Canadian singer-songwriter, incorporates intimate interviews with men and women of a variety of backgrounds. Combining the lyrics and these interviews, she builds a solid life-affirming song which will make you both well-up and feel like you can take on the world.

Whatever you’re up to this week, friends, remember to find your everyday adventure.

Love, Team FINDRA x
