FINDRA’s Weekly Inspiration: Books Are Food for the Soul

Here at FINDRA, we’re always looking to bring you snippets of motivation to get you inspired for your own everyday adventures. Friday was Book Lover’s Day and many members of Team FINDRA are book works – whether that’s by audio book or by paper copy. When everybody was asked for a list of their favourite recent reads, the response was huge. We’ve managed to narrow down our recommendations to bring you a little bit of inspiration for all the bibliophiles out there!

Team FINDRA’s Top 5

We’ve curated a list of the top 5 books Team FINDRA have been reading this summer, hopefully with such a range there’ll be something there for you! From novels to memoirs to mountain climbing, we’ve got you covered for the rest of summer and beyond!

Read the blog, here!

Take a guess at our number 1 book!

Cosy Inspiration

Picture this: a cosy, quiet corner of your home ready and waiting for you to settle into a page turner. If you’re lucky enough to already have a cosy reading corner, then tweet us a photo! If not, then take a look at these great ideas by The Spruce of how to create your own.

It doesn’t need to be much if you’re struggling for space. Add together a good chair, a few throws and pillows and a pile of books, and you’ve got yourself an oasis of reading bliss!

Architecture, interior design and books seem to go hand in hand. If you’re not keen on cosy, how about 50 of the most beautiful libraries in the world? Have you been lucky enough to visit any of these?

Benefits of Reading

It’s impossible to find a negative side effect of reading, unless you’re using it to procrastinate, but it’s worth pointing out three great benefits of taking some time to sit down with a good book.

1/. Mental stimulation – Just like any other muscle in the body, the brain requires exercise to keep it strong and healthy.

2/. Improves focus – If most of your day is spent quickly skimming your social media feeds, it’s great for your focus to engage with a book or long form news article. Shut out the business of the world with quiet focus.

3/. Improves sleep – A 2009 study by the University of Sussex found that reading for just six minutes can reduce stress levels by up to 68%. Add this to “making your eyes tired” and relaxing your mind, reading can lead you into a deep and restful sleep.

Music of the Week

We’re building a FINDRA Community Playlist over on Spotify, bringing you music of a rather eclectic variety! From classic dance tunes to lesser-known indie songs, we hope there’s something new in there for you. If you’ve got a favourite you’d like to hear in the playlist, drop us a tweet!

The American rock group, A Perfect Circle, took inspiration from the fantastic Douglas Adams sci-fi comedy Hitchhiker novels for this song. Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy was made famous by the radio show and subsequent movies, but have you read the books? Remember, 42 is the answer to the meaning of life, the universe and everything…

Whatever you’re up to this week, friends, remember to find your everyday adventure.

Love, Team FINDRA x
