Here at FINDRA, we’re always looking to bring you snippets of motivation to get you inspired for your own everyday adventures. There are so many websites out there telling us to jump straight into January with new aims, new dreams and you’ve got to get started immediately! But here at FINDRA we think January should be a time of reflection and planning, self care and mental preparation for the year to come.
Getting Mentally Ready
Having goals for the upcoming year is definitely a good thing, but don’t feel pressured into starting the ball rolling on them straight away. The cultural pressure to lay down your ‘New Year Resolutions’ on 1st January isn’t helpful, especially if you’re wanting to work on your mental health. We set goals for the things we want to accomplish and swear to ourselves to stick to it, but many of us have a hard time following through. Mental health plays more of a role in your success than you may expect. Here are our top 5 tips on how to get ready for a brand new year with new, exciting plans.

Book of the Week
“When I mean mindfulness, I mean some way we can lower our levels of fear and stress”, says Ruby Wax in a YouTube video introducing her book to the world.
We’re big fans of Ruby Wax here – she’s a fantastic advocate for mental health awareness having shared her own story of depression which has been present throughout her life. In her book, A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled, she writes about ways of strengthening your mind to be able to deal with daily stressors all can all add up to poor mental health triggers. She uses her wit and humour to be bluntly honest and it’s a great read to start the year off on a positive, strong note.

Music of the Week
We’re building a FINDRA Community Playlist over on Spotify, bringing you music of a rather eclectic variety! From classic dance tunes to lesser-known indie songs, we hope there’s something new in there for you. If you’ve got a favourite you’d like to hear in the playlist, drop us a tweet!
The Decemberists capture the reflective nature of January with this beautiful song, January Hymn. Frontman Colin Meloy wrote this song after moving to remote Oregon where, in their first January there, him and his family were snowed in for days on end. “It was awesome. So that song is just about shovelling snow, and thinking about all the snow I shovelled as a kid.”
Whatever you’re up to this week, friends, remember to find your everyday adventure.
Love, Team FINDRA x
