Here at FINDRA, we’re always looking to bring you snippets of motivation to get you inspired for your own everyday adventures. Team FINDRA were at the Royal Highland Show this week, which has led us to be inspired by all things Scottish! In adventure and beyond!
Rebuilding a Wilderness
Recently, there’s been a lot of discussion around the subject of ‘rewilding’ Scotland. Considering Scotland has always been the wilderness of the UK, it’s fantastic news that we’re already surpassing our targets of planting trees. The aim for 2018 was to cover 10,000 hectares of land with new trees, but Scotland actually covered 11,200 hectares with beating the rest of the country by a significant margin.
“Scotland is leading the way in the UK, with 84% of all new planting happening in Scotland”.
Every tree planted goes towards helping reduce the carbon in our atmosphere. Our government has already upped the yearly target to 15,000 hectares a year from 2024/2025 but if this trend continues, we think this will get surpassed before then.
Quote of the Week
Book of the Week
Whether you’re a Scottish local or just visiting, the Wild Guide Scotland will take you to places you never knew existed. Get away from the crowds of Edinburgh and Glasgow and head to the Highlands and Islands. This book ignores the touristy and, in the words of one reviewer, “is ideally suited to those who want to get more in-depth experience of Scotland away from the crowds, those who want to walk lesser-known routes, explore and get a feel for the area, find the best viewpoints or maybe take a dip in a remote plunge pool or wild swim in a remote loch.”
Buy this book if you’re living here, buy it if you’re planning on visiting. Get some real space in your adventure and explore Scotland off the beaten path.
Music of the Week
We’re building a FINDRA Community Playlist over on Spotify, bringing you music of a rather eclectic variety! From classic dance tunes to lesser-known indie songs, we hope there’s something new in there for you. If you’ve got a favourite you’d like to hear in the playlist, drop us a tweet!
Let’s be honest, Scotland wouldn’t be as beautiful as it is without the high levels of rainfall it experiences. For the green landscapes, and for growing trees, we are (sometimes) thankful for all that rain!
Whatever you’re up to this week, friends, remember to find your everyday adventure.
Love, Team FINDRA x
