January FINDRA Round Up

The end of 2019 was an extremely busy time for everyone at Team FINDRA. With our 5th birthday and the pre-Christmas rush, December went by in a whirlwind here at FINDRA HQ. After a much needed Christmas break, Team FINDRA started January with plenty of self-care to ease into a new year and let the dust settle.

They say time flies when you are having fun! And we think it might be true, January has certainly flown by and, as always, it has been another busy month at FINDRA.

The FINDRA design hub in Innerleithen is always a hive of activity, so we thought we would do a little January round up to give you a little flavour of what we get up to and share some of the great stuff we do and amazing people and pets we meet!

One of the things we as a team love about having the shop as part of our design studio is the fact that we all get to meet and chat to our amazing customers. It’s a real pleasure to have the opportunity to interact with visitors to the shop and to tell them a bit about the brand, how it started and the story behind the products, brand values and ethos.

People love to hear about the meaning behind the brand name, and the history of the design hub. Did you know it used to be the police station and we still have one of the original cells!

It’s now a meeting room!

Since moving to this space we have not only met some fantastic people we have also had some great event and talks, often involving cake! In fact, it is to be classed as a real FINDRA event it must involve cake.

As one of the sponsors of the Peebles Outdoor Film Festival we were delighted to sponsor the Karen Darke talk and also host the SWIFT TRAILS / Jenny Graham social bike ride.

It was such a fun event and great to see so many people turn up and get outdoors. We also had some fun afterwards at FINDRA HQ with our very own Prue Leith, aka Jenny Graham, judging the Team FINDRA bake off competition. There were some tough contenders but it was Susan who won in the end with her peanut butter flapjack – see her recipe here!

We love supporting local events and bringing people together to get outdoors and enjoy all that it brings. It’s always a pleasure to host social bike rides, walks and outdoor activities so it was great to start the year off with this one.

Encouraging more people to get outdoors is a key part of our ethos and we love to hear about the great stuff that our customers do and the adventures they take part in.

Terrie and Gillian are a local couple who have become real friends of FINDRA over the last 6 months. When they popped in to see us they were sharing their plans for the year and their trip to Peru in the summer, which sounds amazing. We plan to get them to share their experience with us and you when they get back so keep an eye out for that blog!

And we also get to meet some very lovely four legged friends too – this month we had Thistle come in to to visit, and we also had local doggies and their humans! Some days we even have Alex’s very friendly black lab Horace for company.

Following on from our VIBES Awards win in 2019, we welcomed Mallard Productions to FINDRA HQ who filmed a short video of our gorgeous space and Alex explained more about the FINDRA ethos and the importance of sustainability. We’re really looking forward to sharing this with you when it’s ready!

Note the cake in the foreground…. always cake…

Alex joined the other winners of the VIBES Awards 2019 at the Scottish Parliament to celebrate the environmental successes we’ve seen across businesses in Scotland so far, and to discuss the movement forward. The panel discussion addressed how FINDRA and other award-winning Scottish businesses are committed to ensuring best practice in terms of sustainability and environmental impact and how other businesses can join us in helping to tackle the Climate Emergency. We continue to be absolutely honoured to be a winner of the VIBES Awards and are really looking forward to building upon the work we’ve done so far with sustainability and environmental awareness.

Alex also headed of to the Outdoor Trade Show ISPO in Germany where she met up with some of our retail partners, including Kitty Prisk of Outdoor People. At the show, Alex spent time doing some design research looking into new fabrics and garment ideas for the year ahead – you may have seen a sneak peek on our Instagram… We have some exciting new products being launched this year that we look forward to sharing with you very soon!

Alex and the wonderful Kitty Prisk of Outdoor People

We’ve already had so much going on but we’re very glad to have a place at FINDRA HQ to meet our inspiring customers and friends. January was a brilliant start for Team FINDRA with a mixture of friends and family around us, inspiring and supporting and we’re looking forward to more of the same for the rest of 2020!

Have a wonderful February, dear friends,

Love Team FINDRA x
