Kick-ass Kris

When we were ready to choose our first Ambassador, one person jumped out.

A long time friend of FINDRA.

A whirlwind of a woman.

A skilled and strong biker.

Passionate, full of life.

A self proclaimed ‘ass-kicker of cancer’.

Meet Kris Stewart; FINDRA’s first Ambassador…

Originally from California, artist Kris now lives in Scotland with her husband and two daughters and has been riding for the last six years. Encouraged by her husband to join him on a ride, Kris quickly realised that she loved the freedom and exhilaration of mountain biking. Now she rides regularly with her girlfriends: like-minded women who ride hard.

But it’s fair to say that biking took on a different role when she was diagnosed with cancer back in 2013. It became a lot like therapy: the trails, the air, the push, the up and the downs.

Getting back on her bike was a big deal. “It’s the complete opposite of being sick. It was about taking back power and control. I’d completely lost trust in my body. Because I was so sick from the chemo, I’d given up hope that I’d ever be the same again. So, it was with a sense of disbelief that I started to realise that I might still have it, might still be able to do it. Getting back on my bike was a big, ‘Suck it, cancer!’”

Kris has been trying out FINDRA kit for some months. “Fabulous clothes. I can’t tell you how exciting it is to wear them. Some mountain biking gear doesn’t necessarily feel like it’s been made especially for women. I want to feel good in what I’m wearing, even when I’m riding. These are stylish pieces – shaped to fit women – but so strong and durable.”

And there’s been an added and unexpected bonus at riding in natural materials, “As I’m not wearing nylon, I don’t smell all sweaty at the end of a ride!”

Kris is riding for Findra along with Dee Hollingsbee and Ali Cartmail as a trio entry in this year’s Glentress Seven, part of the TweedLove Bike Festival, on Saturday 23rd May.
