24th August - Emily Chappell: Redefining Body Narratives in Cycling, Talk and Film

24th August 2023

What if we're all wrong about our bodies? Endurance cyclist Emily Chappell always thought she was too fat to be a serious athlete - even as she cycled across continents and won races. It's only in recent years that Emily has begun to confront the false beliefs we hold about our bodies, and the damage that our fatphobic society has done to all of us, no matter what our size.

In 2022 she and Jenny Tough released a short film about body image in cycling - and they were unprepared for how many people would respond to it. Join us for a showing of the film, some stories from Emily, and an open discussion that will aim to get us all thinking differently about the relationship with our bodies. The event should run for roughly an hour.
