Scottish Enduro Series #4 – Laggan Wolftrax

Here’s FINDRA athlete Nic Fell’s race report from racing round 4 of the Scottish Enduro Series at Laggan last weekend:

It felt like it had been a long time since my last Enduro but heading into round 4 of the Scottish Enduro Series I was excited and nervous. Nervous because after 2 weeks riding downhill and drinking too much beer in France I was feeling a tad unfit.

Round 4 was held at Laggan which is always a good race and it didn’t dissapoint. Practice on Saturday went well with a good mix of technical riding and some flat out sections.

On the morning of the race I wasn’t sure what the weather was going to do so decided to layer up with my FINDRA Rouler Merino top and Route T-shirt.

On the way to Stage 1 there was lots of chat about the boggy climb in the middle of the stage and I had already decided myself that if I stalled in that climb I would just get off and run but I managed to carry enough speed into it to make it all the way to the top. Stages 2 and 3 felt quite disasterous. I made a lot of mistakes in stage 2 each one almost bringing me to a standstill, never getting any flow on the trail and I fell twice in stage 3.  I was mad at myself for not riding smooth, If I make one mistake in a stage I start to stress myself out which in turn leads to more mistakes. On the transition to stage 4 Michael was telling me just to relax and enjoy it and this seemed to do the trick. I came out of stage 4 happier at my performance having rode the stage smoothly. Going into stage 5 with a positive attitude it went well and I got to the bottom feeling that I had done my best with only one small mistake. Stage 6 was super fun with a fast flowy jump section to finish.

Finishing the race out of breath and full of Enduro stoke I handed in my timing chip to see how I had done. I finished the race 4th out of 20 senior females with a time of 32.27. Fiona Beattie was the fastest in my category and the only senior female to break the 30 minute mark with a time of 29.44. These girls are fast!

It was another awesome event and its always nice to see all the usual Enduro faces and meet some new ones. Thanks to FINDRA for their support and to the Scottish Enduro Series for another amazing weekend. Bring on the next one!!
