I started mountain biking a few years ago with a group of friends, it was the first time in a long time that I had been on a bike! I remember feeling a mixture of fear and excitement all at the same time. But I thought nothing ventured nothing gained, so off I set to Glentress.
Situated in the Tweed Valley in the Scottish Borders, Glentress and Innerleithen have a massive reputation for providing some of the best mountain biking in the UK.
Mountain biking is not for the faint hearted it’s tough it’s scary you fall off you hurt yourself and you get covered in mud but more than anything it’s liberating, exhilarating, it’s freedom, it’s space and so much more! Through one of the toughest periods of my life getting out on my bike was my salvation. From that first bike ride I became utterly hooked………. I loved it!
No matter what the weather or time of year I get out on my bike every weekend. I enjoy biking alone or with friends quite often going out with a group is always great. Ran by Lucy Swift Trails MTB is a club for women based in Peebles in the Tweed Valley. The club meets weekly at Glentress Forest and welcomes riders of all abilities.
Lucy Husband who runs Swift Trails a club for women based in Peebles in the Tweed Valley welcomes riders of all abilities. MBLA TCL qualified Lucy organises amazing weekly and monthly ride outs. Sundays ride was as always really enjoyable. The route followed the old Glenpeggy Trail through Cardrona Forest before emerging onto the moor at the top of Beards Hill. There are spectacular views over the Tweed and Innerleithen and back towards Peebles Descending round the perimeter of the forest taking in a few natural trails before heading back to Peebles.
No matter what kind of day or week I have had I always know a pedal on my bike will really help put it all into perspective. Im not a competitive rider but I am a passionate one. So much so, that I felt compelled to set up FINDRA. Women who mountain bike no matter what level really do inspire me. I think there is a real inner strength in these amazing women a real beauty in who they are and their attitude to life.
As a biker, a designer and an entrepreneur I want to create a business and establish a brand that provides women who bike with clothing that performs, clothing that allows them to look good feel good and perform to the best of their abilities. Through FINDRA I aim to empower and inspire more women to get out on their bikes and feel all the benefits it brings.
I hope you enjoy reading our Journal and maybe even wearing our clothes. I hope you too are inspired to get out there and ride your bike!
