On September 13th, we are hosting a day dedicated to mastering essential outdoor skills, empowering you with the confidence to embark on your own adventures. From first aid and navigation to other lifesaving techniques, you’ll gain practical knowledge that can be applied in real-world situations. Additionally, we will explore our values, how they enhance our everyday life.
Leading the event is our friend, Jen Isherwood—a true outdoor enthusiast and highly qualified instructor in biking, hiking, skiing, first aid, and expedition work. Jenny has served with the Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue for nearly 20 years and is currently their deputy team leader. She also works as the Director of Adventure and Character Education at The Edinburgh Academy, where she empowers young people to lead their own adventures.
However, it’s Jen’s role as Director of FAB Adventures that inspired us to host this workshop. Jenny founded FAB to help people "Become Advanced at the Basics and feel empowered to create your own adventure!" Her vision aligns perfectly with FINDRA's, as we both believe that the outdoors is for everyone.
In Jen’s own words, "My passion is to teach and share the skills for adventure, and in doing so, help others develop the mindset needed to respond to in any situation. I do this in the adventure landscape, where the mountains are the backdrop, the journey is the learning space, and the conversations help articulate our values, beliefs and most importantly our adventure action plan!"
Jen's training sessions are clear and practical, drawing from her extensive experience in mountain rescue and adventure education. She’s bringing this expertise to FINDRA to equip you with your own adventure toolkit!
Outline of the Day
The workshop kicks off at 9:30 AM with a session on building your adventure toolkit. At the FINDRA Hub, Jenny will guide you through route planning and preparation for an outdoor adventure. After an introduction over coffee, you'll head out on a walk with Jenny, using the D’s System of navigation—a straightforward, systematic approach similar to the ABCs of first aid.
Throughout the walk, you'll have opportunities to connect with fellow adventurers while Jenny leads regular checkpoints to reset your navigation and discuss "what if" scenarios around injury, illness, and getting lost. These exercises will help you build confidence in making decisions when the unexpected occurs.
Upon returning to the Hub, we’ll explore how you can nurture your adventure mindset to plan and execute your next adventure. This session will delve into the values that drive your purpose, offering insights on how to integrate them into your daily life. You’ll also have the chance to explore other adventurous activities, overcome perceived barriers, and create a personal action plan.
We’re so excited to welcome you to this unique event. Spaces are limited, so we encourage you to sign up as soon as possible. Tickets are only £38.50 per person including booking fee.
