Here at FINDRA, we’re always looking to bring you snippets of motivation to get you inspired for your own everyday adventures.
Vicky Balfour has been a long time Friend of FINDRA and we recently got chatting to her about the community initiative, the Canterbury Bike Project, which she's involved with. We've always believed in the importance of getting people together to share knowledge and building support networks, so we asked Vicky to tell us more, including how it all began for her.
Vicky Balfour and Community Projects
"The Canterbury Bike project was initially set up as part of a local high school, Canterbury Academy, who just completely believe in kids and their abilities. If working with a child doesn’t work in the normal way, they turn it around and find a different way of working with them to they succeed; they don’t write any child off. The Project is now rolled out across East Kent to a number of schools and is really moving forward. It teaches how to face down fear with courage and shows that it’s OK to fail because it’s about adapting and learning how to change. These are both incredibly important lessons to learn from a young age."

Quote of the Week
Book of the Week
Vicky tells us, "I refuse to be controlled by fear. I will never let it stop me. I’ve learnt that you can either curl up and shut the door and decide not to do things, or you just come out fighting."
A book Vicky comes back to is Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert of Eat, Pray, Love fame. It dares you to be brave by dropping the fear and channel your creativity in a different way. This is a book for those who really want to live.
"By sharing stories from her own life, as well as those from her friends and the people that have inspired her, Elizabeth Gilbert challenges us to embrace our curiosity, tackle what we most love and face down what we most fear.Whether you long to write a book, create art, cope with challenges at work, embark on a long-held dream, or simply to make your everyday life more vivid and rewarding, Big Magic will take you on a journey of exploration filled with wonder and unexpected joys."
Music of the Week
We’re building a FINDRA Community Playlist over on Spotify, bringing you music of a rather eclectic variety! From classic dance tunes to lesser-known indie songs, we hope there’s something new in there for you. If you’ve got a favourite you’d like to hear in the playlist, drop us a tweet!
Vicky tell us "there are so many songs in my favourites playlist but Crazy Nights by Kiss works whenever I’m a bit scared, it completely takes me out of fear"
Whatever you're up to this week, dear friends, have a great time!
Love, Team FINDRA x
